2012-2013 PTO Accomplishments
2012-2013 was a great year and we accomplished so much with the help of our great parents and school administration.
- Held 10 PTO meetings with topics ranging from the core curriculum standards to middle school options
- Continued to update and enhance our parent website www.taotspto.org
- Distributed the SLT agenda and minutes throughout the school year
Community Building
- Worked with the Federation of Italian Americans to implement the TAOTS after school program for grades 2-5, three days a week
- Collaborated with the Parks Department, Councilman Greenfield’s Office and Assemblyman Colton to beautify the TAOTS Community Garden in Seth Low Park.
- Organized a bake sale to help victims of Hurricane Sandy
- Arranged Meet Ups at the Prospect Park Zoo, Seth Lowe Park and Manhattan Beach
- Hosted an Easter egg hunt including kite flying and bubbles
- Organized Magician show as a Valentine’s Day gift for all students
- Created a quilt from recycled materials on Family Quilt Night
- Volunteered as librarians to enable our students to visit our school library
- Supported BEAR night and individual classroom libraries by purchasing $3,000 worth of books
- Celebrated the end of the school year at Adventurers Amusement Park
- Thanked our teachers and staff by funding the Teacher/Staff Appreciation luncheon
Grants Committee
- Invited parents to learn about grant writing at a workshop
- Applied for multiple grants, including: technology (laptops and smart boards), art, the construction of a multipurpose room and park beautification
- Awarded the Rose Award from the Department of Sanitation for TAOTS’ vision for the TAOTS Community Garden at Seth Lowe
